Characters Playlist Book Tag- Paramore Edition
Paramore is one of the bands that can get me moving no matter where I am. From their first hit single "Misery Business" to their new songs like "Hard Times", Paramore has created a variety of songs that deal with love, pain, being true to yourself, and self-doubt. Some of their new songs like "Idle Worship" "Tell Me How", "Told You So" and "Hard Times" tell us not only what is going on with the band's life, but connects with many issues that some twenty-ish-year-olds are dealing with, like managing the expectations that put you on this pedestal that can only lead to disappointment or failing at something and having people throw it in your face that they warned you.
Whenever I hear this song, I think of Katniss Everdeen from the Hunger Games before that ending that tears me inside. Listen to the chorus: Just let me cry a little bit longer/I ain't gon' smile if I don't want to/Hey, man, we all can't be like you/I wish we were all rose-colored too/My rose-colored boy. I always hear Katniss singing this to Gale.
4. Forgiveness
A character that you can't forgive just yet.
While it would be easy to say Ron Weasley or even Gale, Kingsley Fulcrum from the Vampire for Hire Series takes the cake. His relationship with Samantha Moon just errr!!!! I know I should give more information about this couple and why I can't forgive Kingsley yet, but the anger is still there and I really don't want to spoil the series.
5. Playing God
A character tired of others acting like they know better than the character.
Risika from the Den of Shadows Series. Minor spoiler up ahead. For three hundred years, she thought her brother was dead and she even fought the vampire that she thought killed him. She spent those three hundred years alone, living with the guilt that she just left her brother to die in the forest. Now, three hundred years later, her brother wants to come back and wants to act all holier than thou because she got her revenge? Nope. Not having it.
(As to why I spoiled this twist in the story and not the one for Kingsley, it is because, even though the brother being alive is something is important to Risika, it isn't something that I consider important to the overall plot. In fact, the brother being alive and not telling his sister is something I will not forgive.)
6. Crush Crush Crush
A character that you have a crush on.
The funny thing about this one is that I don't really have one character that I am particularly drawn to. In fact, I'm pretty sure that most male characters are like a 5 for me on the attractiveness scale, including, my boys, Harry, and Draco from the Harry Potter series. Hmm, nope, I can't think of anyone character that catches my fancy.
7. Fake Happy
A character that for the majority of the story hid behind a mask.
So for this prompt, I can't help think of Zane from Hawksong by Amelia Atwater Rhodes. He entered a sham mating to avoid war and fell in love with Danica, but for most of the story was hiding his feelings and played a part until Danica was ready to admit she loved him.
8. 26
A character that turns their dreams into reality
Whew, this one is a bit hard to narrow down, only because there are two characters from different stories, but the same genre. But, after carefully (read: agonizing back and forth) consideration, the winner is Writer Vanessa Montoya of The Pros of the Cons by Alison Cherry, Lindsey Ribar, and Michelle Schusterman. Vanessa, not only meets her online crush and fellow fanfiction writer in person, but she learns who she is really is as a person because of this experience.
9. Idle Worship
A character that you once admired.
The song is sung in the point of view of a person that is constantly being put on a pedestal. For me, the character I admired the most was Dumbledore from Harry Potter. I wanted to believe that he was there for Harry. I wanted to believe that he wasn't just using Harry, but my heart broke when I put it all together as a young teen that Dumbledore wasn't a good guy. He wasn't wise or all-knowing. He was an old man that didn't trust those around him with all the information and sent a young abused orphan boy to die. Yeah, I resent Dumbledore for leaving Sirus Black in prison, for not checking up on Harry, for allowing freaking 11-year-olds face a mad man that has so much more knowledge of magic than those three. Ugh! I'm done. I promise I'm done.
10. The Only Exception
A character that you favor even though his/her/their actions are utterly foolish
When I first read this category, I could only think of one character that is so foolish and normally I have no patience for a character being so wishy-washy, but Nana K. from the Nana series written by Ai Yazawa is such a character. I still remember wanting to yell at her for breaking hearts and falling in love (tough is it really love?!) with Trapnest bassist Takumi. Seriously, she makes dumb mistake after dumb mistake in her interactions. With all honesty, she should be the character I pick for Ain't it Fun, but she is written and drawn in such a way that though she frustrates me, I can't help think that she is learning to navigate this world we call home.
With that being written, this is the Book Character-Paramor Edition. What do you think? Do you agree with me on anything? Disagree with my ideas? Let me know in the comment box below.
With that said, in honor of their new album, this is the Book Character Playlist Tag- Paramore Edition.
1. Still Into You
A couple that has been together for a long time and still is in love.
This goes to Mr. and Mrs. Weasley from Harry Potter. They have gone through two wars, lost two sons, got one back, had a fatal snake attack almost take the life of one, and still are there for each other. No wonder Ron wanted a marriage like his parents when you think about the love he sees his parents have for one another.
2. Hard Time
A character that survives everything that life throws at them, including the kitchen sink.
When I started writing this up, I wanted to say Samantha Moon from the Vampire for Hire Series, but Ellamara from Cinder and Ella literally has had her world crash down on her and got back from it. Ellamara lost her mom in a car accident that left her with 70% of her body badly burned, her right hand is mangled, and she will never be able to walk without assistance for the rest of her life. To top it all off, this all happens two days before her birthday.
3. Rose Colored Boy
A character that has changed dramatically since the beginning of the story.
4. Forgiveness
